Refinement that Fans into flames the Gift
Firstly let me say based of the written word of Psalms 37:7
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
Go through the verses of this Chapter and allow the Lord to minister and remind you that He is with you.
The Lord said to me, This month of May is one of refinement. As you fan into the flame the gifts within, you will be exposed to another dimension of my anointing. Yes its all seems like the opposite of what you feel and see but i am separating the wolves from among the sheepfold. The rebellious from the obedient. The gifts and talents i have placed within vessels in my body are being refined for the advancement of my kingdom agenda and not man’s. No more house play. My house is being sweep clean.
Spring is a season of renewal, growth, and clearing away what no longer serves life. Just as the earth awakens, blooms, and sheds the old, God often works in His people in ways that are both gentle and purifying.
1. Refinement: Purifying the Heart
The Bible often uses the imagery of refining metal to describe spiritual growth. Just as gold or silver is purified in fire (Malachi 3:3), God’s Spirit refines His children as Refinement is the process by which God removes impurities—pride, fear, selfishness, or weakness—from our character.
Proverbs 27:17 reminds us:
“Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.”
Refinement is not always comfortable. Friction, correction, and trials test our faith, exposing what is weak or unfit. But like a skilled blacksmith, God’s purpose is not to destroy but to strengthen. The result? A heart ready to reflect His glory and serve His purposes effectively.
2. Fanning into Flame: Activating the Gift
Refinement prepares the heart, but preparation alone is not enough. Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:6:
“Fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you.”
Our spiritual gifts are like glowing embers. If left untouched, they remain warm but dormant. But when we intentionally cultivate them through prayer, study, service, and obedience, the flame grows. The heat of trials, the friction of relationships, and the sparks of accountability fan these gifts into a bright, life-giving blaze and with any blaze, it will spread.
Refinement and fanning go together. God purifies the heart so that when the ember of our gift is fanned, it burns steadily and powerfully, bringing light to others.
Another thing He mentioned is that for many, snakes have been exposed in their gardens and now it’s time for it to be removed. He said it’s Spring time and your healing will spring forth as the serpents are removed.
Spring is a perfect metaphor for God’s work of cleansing His garden—our lives and communities. Just as gardeners remove weeds, pests, and dead branches, God exposes the “snakes” among us: anything deceptive, harmful, or divisive that threatens our growth.
Psalm 23 reminds us:
“He makes me lie down in green pastures… He restores my soul.”
Restoration often begins with exposure. The snakes—be it sin, deception, envy, pride—cannot thrive in the light. God lovingly removes them so His garden can flourish. The pruning is sometimes uncomfortable, but it makes room for new growth, abundant fruit, and spiritual vitality.
- Refinement = fire and friction removing impurities and strengthening character.
- Fanning into flame = cultivating and activating God-given gifts for service and impact.
- Garden cleaning = God exposing snakes and pruning the dead to make space for life, growth, and flourishing.
Just as the earth comes alive in spring, God calls His children to awaken to renewed purpose, purify the heart, and allow His Spirit to ignite our gifts. And like any good gardener, He will remove what hinders the beauty and fruitfulness of His creation.
Practical Takeaways
- Welcome refinement: Don’t resist trials, correction, or friction—they are shaping you into spiritual iron, ready to sharpen others.
Many run from the fire but as a believer you should willingly run into it. Take the three Hebrew boys as the perfect example. 3 were sent it but a 4th was seen. They emerged out of the furnace unharmed with only the chain they were sent in with removed. You are going to come of the refinement process renewed and most importantly free.
2. Fan your gift: Identify your God-given abilities, passions, and callings, and intentionally invest time and effort in them.
I shared this with the ladies at IAC this week. Our gifts are not for ourselves. It is to be used in the kingdom to help others. Start exercising what the Lord has blessed you with.
3.Allow God to prune: Pray for insight to see what He wants removed from your life—habits, relationships, attitudes, or fears.
Something’s or people need to go so you can step into your new season. Sometimes it’s the fact that extra baggage isn’t needed. Anything that prevents you from maturing or is stealing your peace must go.
4.Stay alert for snakes: Discern what is poisonous to your spiritual growth and let God handle its removal.
Spring is the perfect season to align with God’s work: He is restoring, igniting, and cultivating life in every corner of your heart. The question is: Are you ready to let Him sharpen, ignite, and prune?
I pray this blesses you and may the Lord give you wisdom, understanding and revelation.
Shalom Shalom,
Reesha,
